About
Hyperfocus DSP is a solo indie audio plugin studio.
It started with a Linux problem. Getting favorite plugins running flawlessly — and looking right — on Wayland with Hyprland on Arch was tedious. Wine and yabridge get you most of the way, but most of the way isn't the whole way, and the gap between "it works" and "it disappears into the workflow" is where the friction lives.
Building a plugin from scratch was meant as an itch-scratcher. It turned out fun, inspiring, and genuinely useful on real mixes — so putting it in the hands of other people running similar setups felt like the right call.
That's still the bar. If a plugin doesn't get reached for on actual sessions here, it doesn't ship.
How it's built
- DSP framework: Rust with nih-plug for the free plugins. The paid lineup (starting with SquelchPro) uses JUCE where AU support becomes possible.
- Development host: Renoise on Arch Linux. Wayland + Hyprland, no X11 fallback.
- Formats: VST3, CLAP, and Standalone on all platforms. Free plugins skip AU — nih-plug doesn't support it, so Logic Pro on macOS is the one gap. JUCE-based paid plugins will cover AU when they land.
- Platforms: Linux is a first-class target — built and dogfooded daily. macOS (Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows are tested on real hardware before every release.
- Source: open where it can be. Free plugins ship under GPL. Paid plugins keep the shell closed. Everything on GitHub.
Some tools need to be paid to justify the support; most don't. Free ones stay free.
What's out and what's next
- Slammer — three-layer kick synth with a 909-style clap voice. Free, open source, public beta now (0.4.1) on the plugin page. Still being polished toward 1.0.
- A few more plugins further out this year. Details when they're close to real — nothing gets announced until it's earned its place on a mix.
Staying in touch
- Mailing list on the home page — posts when there's something to say, heads-up when plugins ship.
- Instagram: @hyperfocusdsp — short waveform reels, build updates.
- Email: hello@hyperfocusdsp.com — bug reports, ideas, or just saying hi all land in the same inbox.
Spot a bug, or have an idea? Drop a line. These plugins exist because one person wanted them; they get better when other people use them and say so.
No accounts, no tracking cookies, no license servers. If any of those land later, it'll be because the honest trade-off is worth it.
